I love music and will continue to till the end of my time. Thank goodness I am not deaf because without music, I will probably be shipped into a psychological hospital. I just wanted to give you my reasons I love it so much and how it affects me.
Reasons:
1. It has always been there for me. I can always turn on a radio or anything, and it will be there. Not a lot of things tend to stick around in my life, but music is one of the exceptions.
2. It does not judge me. Everyone else in my life criticizes for who I am, but I stopped letting it get to me. I am actually tired of it to tell you the truth, but music does not tell me who I should be or who I should want to be.
3. It is adaptable to my mood. I can find any song, and it will fit me in that certain situation. Call me crazy, but music does things that words are unable to describe.
Artists who influenced me:
1. All American Rejects: You can have your own opinion on them, but I love them. They grow as I grow and were the first band I fell I love with. After listening to them, I began listening to all different alternative artists. Thank you.
2. The Smiths: It started out as a random click on YouTube, and I found them. Their sound is so unique, and their lyrics are not cookie-cutter perfect. They are not perfect; they are human. They are controversial to the government, question authority my dear friends.
3. Youth Lagoon: A dreamy hazy type pop deal with heavily themed lyrics. Only he could get away with it. Again, random clicks on the Internet led to me to him. After him, I listened to Paper Kites, Greg Holden, Years Around the Sun, and many more folky calming music. Those relieved anxiety from my life.
3. Black Sabbath: Do I need to say more? It adds to a slightly dark tone to my music collection, but not anything too bad. Just enough pepper on my plate.
4. Cream: This lovely British band led me to Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Kinks. They bring me back home when I am miles away. I will never be homesick with them.
5. Vampire Weekend: My pessimistic music choices need balance. Now, they were quite optimistic as I may say. Without them, I will actually become a full blown hate-society type girl, which I am not :).
6. Pink Floyd: I wish I can pay back all the things they did for me. I am serious. Thank you so much. You brought out the light when I was blind from the darkness. Thank you.
7. Fleet Foxes: During my magical love-affair with Canada, I was living life. I love Canada, but not the people who I took the trip with. Surprisingly enough, I do not remember anything from the trip other than this song and watching Pippy Longstocking. My soul memory of my love affair with Canada.
8. Mumford and Sons: As I grow up, my music taste matures a bit as well. I used to be into the really folky stuff, but I toned down a bit. With Mumford and Sons, I am calmer, more relaxed, thank you.
9. Switch foot: They showed me that Christian rock is not an oxymoron nor do you have to be Christian in order to enjoy it. They have changed a little over the years; evolution is good. Where would we be without it?
10. Sucicide Silence: Very heavy band, they led me to the older school stuff such as Slipknot. It is too bad that Mitch Lucker died so young, but things happen. His frustration is really brought out through the songs, and I applaud them for doing so. Thank you, and I have a new obsession :).
11. Keith Moon, yes, I know he died quite young and lived a crazy life, but his beats were radical. They were so exciting and different from the first time I heard it. No one plays drums like him.
12. The Sex Pistols: When I was in deep with the whole rock scene, I got really into British rock. The Sex Pistols were my first impression, and may I say, they sure did. :). I still listen to them, and they started a huge turning point in my life.
13. David Bowie: He was so different to me. Although his "Ziggy Stardust" stage was quite a character on its own, it showed me that normal is overrated. Cut yourself a break and live life.
These artists have made a massive impact on my life. Even though you may not like them, I love them and will continue to. They were a verbal map on the path of my life. From every river I had to cross to every road I had to turn on, they were here. I am here. I just wanted you to know me just a bit better :).
